The princely state of Alwar was founded by Pratap Singh, a Rajput of the Kachwaha Rajpur belonging to the clan of Jaipur’s rulers, in the second half of the 18th century. Formerly, it was known as Mewar. The strategic location of Alwar makes it an important town and for this reason it has an eventful past.
