About Vadodara.

Vadodara, formerly known as Baroda, is the third largest and most popular city in the Indian state of Gujarat, it is also referred the cultural capital of Gujarat. It is situated on the banks of River Vishwamitri. Historical and archaeological findings date this place back to the 9th century when it was a small town called Ankottaka (present Akota) and was famous for Jainism. It was ruled by many rulers in the past but found its glory in the time of Gaekwad Maratha rulers when they conquered Baroda State in Year 1734. Baroda state was one of the largest and richest Indian Princely states during the rule of royal Gaekwad dynasty.

The Geakwad’s ruled the Kingdom until Indian Independence in Year 1947.
