About Tiruvannamalai.

The mountain-temple town of Tiruvannamalai is spreads in the foothills of Annamalai Hills in Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is among the holiest and popular pilgrim site, which is believed to one of the five spots in South India, where elements of nature (fire, air, water, earth, ether) are worshipped. Lord Shiva is worshipped here in his fire avatar (Arunachaleswara). 

The town is sprawled around the iconic Arunachaleswarar Temple, a spectacular structure boasting four huge gateways or gopurams. The meaning of Tiruvannamalai is Tiru means Holy and Annamalai means Mountain. The Annamalai hill a centre of the Saiva religion and its environs have been held in great regard by the Tamils for centuries. Tiruvannamalai has a rich history and architectural legacy as it was ruled by Pallavas, Cholas, Hoysalas, kings of the Vijayanagar empire and many more. 

Apart from Arunachaleswarar Temple there is many more places to visit in Tiruvannamalai such as Ramana Ashram, Virupaksha Cave, Girivalam, Skanda Ashramam, Seshadri Swamigal Ashram, Padavedu Renukambal temple, Annamalai Hills, Thirumeeyachur Lalithambikai Temple and Nedungunam Ramar temple.
