About Bharatpur.

Bharatpur is commonly called the ‘eastern gateway to Rajasthan’ is situated in the Braj Region. Bharatpur, also known as Lohagarh, was established in early 18th century by Maharaja Suraj Mal. It was during the rule of Suraj Mal; Bharatpur was going through its golden period. 

Many palaces and forts that dot the kingdom, were constructed during the rule of Maharaja Suraj Mal. Bharatpur is famous in the world for the most popular Keoladeo National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its wintering ground of Palaearctic migratory waterfowl, and a large population of non-migratory resident breeding birds, Keoladeo National Park, formerly known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Apart from the UNESCO recognized Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur’s main attractions are Bharatpur Palace, Government Museum and Lohagarh Fort. It is also known for its vibrant Braj Festival, pre-Holi celebration. Is marked by raslila- a traditional musical-theatrical performance of Radha and Krishna’s love.
