About Mysore.

Mysore officially called Mysuru, is a city in the southern part of the state of Karnataka, located in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills. The word Mysore means the town of Mahishasura in local language. As per the sayings city was ruled by the demon Kind Mahishasura. In response to the prayer by the Gods and Goddesses, Goddess Parvathi, took birth as Chamundeshwari and killed the monster on top of the Chamundi hill near Mysore.

Hence the hill and the city have the names Chamundi Hill and Mysore respectively. The Gangas Dynasty established Mysore in the 2nd century and ruled till 1004 AD. After their fall many dynasties have been ruled the city including Cholas, Chalukyas, Hoysala King and Vijayanagar Kings. Finally in 1399 A.D. the power came in hands of Wodeyar dynasty, they ruled the area for around six centuries. After the death of Tippu Sultan in 1799, Mysore became the capital of the Wodeyars once again.

The main tourist attraction of Mysore are Lalitha Mahal, Mysore Palace, Jagmohan Palace, Karanji Lake, Melody World Wax Museum, Railway Museum, St. Philomena Church, Chamundi Hills And Chamundeshwari Temple, Sri Nandi Temple, Brindavan Gardens, Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Trinesvaraswamy Temple, Chunchanakatte Falls, Folklore Museum, Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery & Auditorium, Regional Museum of Natural History Mysore, Kukkarahalli Lake, Chamarajendra Academy Of Visual Arts, Government Silk Factory, Lingambudhi Lake, St. Philomena’s Cathedral, Government Sandalwood Oil Factory, Cheluvamba Mansion and Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary.
