About Ujjain.

The ancient city of Ujjain is situated in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh in central India, on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River. It is one of the seven sacred cities in India, where the famous Hindu festival 'Kumbh Mela' is organized every 12 years. It emerged as the political centre of central India around 600 BCE. It was the capital of the ancient Avanti kingdom. Ujjain was ruled by the Sungas and the Satavahanas consecutively in the Post-Mauryan period.

After the conquest of the Sakas by the Guptas, the city soon gained importance and became an important seat in the annals of that empire. After the 12th century, the city has been suffered widespread destruction and systematic desecration of temples by Muslim rulers. The present established temples have been rebuild near in 1736 by Scindia royal family of Gwalior. 

The main tourist attraction of Ujjain are Mahakaleshwar Temple, Kal Bhairava Temple, Ram Mandir Ghat, The Harsiddhi Temple, Kaliadeh Palace, Pir Matsyendranath, Jantar Mantar, Bhartrihari Caves, Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir, Ram Mandir, Sandipani Ashram, Vikram University and Park, Gadkalika Temple, Gopal Mandir, Ram Ghat, Gomti Kund and Kalidasa Academy.
