About Kolhapur.

Kolhapur is situated in southwest Maharashtra estate in western India, Comfortably nestled in the Sahayadri Mountain ranges on the Pancaganga River. The history of Kolhapur is very ancient about 5th century A.D. As per the record found King Kamadeo from Chalukys Dynasty started construction of Mahalaxmi temple In 634 AD. Almost all Chalukys Kings address Kolhapur as ‘Dakshin Kashi’ or ‘Mahateerth’.  After that the city ruled by several rulers of the region until Maratha Dynasty. 

Maratha rulers reconstruct The Mahalkshmi Temple and maid their capital. During the reign of the Bhosle Dynasty, Kolhapur went by the amusing name of 19 gun state. The Mahalkshmi Temple, made famous by the name Amba Devi, is a central spiritual destination in Kolhapur. Apart from Mahalkshmi Temple there is other tourist destination in Kolhapur as such Panhala Fort, Jotiba Temple, Kolhapur Town Hall, Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhavani Mandap, New Palace, Vishalgad, Shivaji University, Temblabai Temple, Shivaji Park, Shahuji Museum, Rankala Lake, Bahubali Hill Temple and Maharaja’s Palace.
