About Mangalore.

Mangalore, Officially addressed as Mangaluru, is the largest city of the Dakshina Kannada district of Indian state of Karnataka. The city gets its name from the presiding deity of the town, Mangaladevi Temple “The Goddess of fortune”. It is located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats mountain range on the backwaters formed by the Netravati and Gurpur rivers. 

The city developed as a port in the Arabian Sea during ancient times, and it was occupied by the Portuguese in the mid-16th century. Under the Mysore Empire (1763) it became a strategic shipbuilding base, which was ceded to the British in 1799 after numerous sieges. 


The main tourist attraction of Mangalore are Kudroli Gokarnath Temple, Kadri Park, Pilikula park & Gold Course, New Mangalore Port, Ullal Beach, Bejai Museum, Sultan Battery, Mangaladevi Temple, Kateel-Shri Durgaparameshwari temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, Kadri Manjunath Temple, Milagres church, Rosario Cathedral, Panumbur Beach, Thousand Pillar Temple and Mangalore Beach.
