About Aurangabad.

Aurangabad, “the city of Gates” is located in the northern part of the state of Maharashtra, in the western region of India, situated in a hilly upland region on the Kham River. The city of Aurangabad is known for its medieval monuments and cultural heritage. The city has a long and undeterred history, during the prolonged rule of the Satavahanas (230 B.C. to 230 A.D.). 

Their rule witnessed the era of peace and prosperity, became the hub of socio-cultural activities of the Deccan. During the early centuries of the Christian ere the regions of the commercial were in the hands of Buddhist community hence large number of Buddhist caves were excavated. Later on Jain and Brahmanical caves were also excavated on par with Buddhist caves. While the city changed several hands, it finally got its current name when Aurangzeb took over the Deccan kingdoms and named it after himself in 1653. Now days the city is referred as a Tourism Capital of Maharashtra.

The main tourist attraction of Aurangabad are Ajanta & Ellora Caves, Bibi ka Maqbara, Grishneshwar Mandir, Daulatabad Fort, Khultabad, Aurangabad Caves, Sunheri Mahal, Bani Begum Garden, Salim Ali Lake, Panchakki, The Shah Ganj Masjid, Naukonda Palace, Killa Arak, Gul Mandi, Siddharth Garden, Tomb of Aurangzeb Kachner Jain Temples, Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum and Purwar Museum.
