About Puducherry.

Puducherry also known as Pondicherry (The French Riviera of the East) is a union territory of Indian is situated on the southeast coast of India on the Arabian Sea. It was a tiny fishing village before when Portuguese first landed there in 1521 A.D. and subsequently with the Dutch and the Danes in the 17th century. 

The French first set foot here in 1670 A.D. and stablished a trading centre at Pondicherry and this outpost eventually became the first French settlement in India. Even years after the French left it, Pondicherry has managed to retain its French influence with tree-lined avenues and Mediterranean style houses. 

The main tourist attraction of Puducherry are Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Paradise Beach, Auroville, Arikamedu, Auroville Beach, The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Matri Mandir, Botanical Garden, Old Lighthouse, Jawahar Toy Museum, French War Memorial, The Pondicherry Museum, Promenade Beach, Bharati Park, Ousteri Lake, Eglise de Notre Dame des Anges, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, White Town, Goubert Market, Raj Niwas, Ananda Ranga Pillai Mansion, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple and Sri Karaneswara Nataraja Temple.
