About Pathankot 

Pathankot situated at the foothills of Kangra hills, in the Indian state of Punjab. The city is surrounded by the Ravi and Chakki rivers, hence it is best known for its serene green beauty and a rich historical past. 

Pathankot was known for Loi and shawl weaving industry for many centuries. As per the records it was known as Paithan, an abbreviation of Pratishthan from which the Pathania Rajputs derive their name. Pathania Rajput was the king of Nurpur and Pathankot was the capital of Nurpur. 

The capital was shifted from Pathankot to Dhameri Nurpur during the reign of Raja Basu Dev 1580–1613. Pathankot is located on the meeting point of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Due to its strategic location the two most important naval bases for the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. 

The main tourist attraction of Pathankot are Ranjit Sagar Dam, Mukteshwar Temple, Shahpurkandi Fort, Hydraulic Research Station, Nagni Temple, Nurpur Fort, Kali Mata Ka Mandir, Kathgarh Temple, Shani Dev Temple, Ashapurni Mandir and Laxmi Narayan Mandir.
