About Nainital.

Nainital, also known as the 'Lake District of India', is surrounded by mountains on three sides, situated around the beautiful lake Naini Tal, located in Indian state of Uttarakhand. 

Nainital has derived its name from the Goddess Naina Devi (‘Naina’ means eyes and ‘Tal’ means lake.). This beautiful small town in surrounded by seven hills. 

The majestic mountains and the sparkling waters of the lake add an immense lot to the beauty of the town. According to recent historical records, Nainital was discovered by a British sugar merchant P. Barron in 1839. 

He was so deeply enthralled by the lake settlement and its forested surrounding that he came back with a sailing boat and built a house named ‘Pilgrim’s Cottage’. Soon, it became an important administrative town as well, with the summer capital of the erstwhile United Provinces being set up here. The British government built several schools and colleges in the region. 

Nainital is one of the most beautiful and famous tourist hill stations in North India, attracting large number of domestic and foreign tourists every year. The main tourist attraction of Nainital are The Mall Road, Naini Lake, Tiffin Top, Naini Peak, Snow View Point, Nainital Zoo, Raj Bhawan, Naina Devi Temple, Bhimtal Lake, Eco Cave Gardens, Binayak, Gurney House, Sattal, Hanuman Garhi, Jeolikot, Land’s End, Himalayan View Point, Khurpa Taal, Kainchi Dam, Naukuchia Taal, Sariyatal, Pangot & Kilbury Bird Sanctuary, Lover’s Point, St. John’s Wilderness Church, Astronomical Observatory, Tibetan Market, Pashan Devi Temple and Jama Masjid.
